Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace.
Wednesday's child is full of woe
Thursday's child has far to go.
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living.
And the child born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, good and gay.
My name is Lynne Bolton. I was born on a Wednesday, and according to the old poem, Wednesday's Child is "Full of woe." Although I am definitely NOT a woeful individual, I'm running with the moniker!
I have literally worn so many hats in my life that I've lost track. I've been a wife and mother, a hair colorist, scenic painter, assistant to wildlife expert, Joan Embery, run a rock school for kids, been a street painter, portrait painter, paper mache artist, Atmosphere Designer for SD Fringe Festival, and an art teacher for Sudanese refugees. I've painted jackets, jeans, utility boxes, walls and furniture. I've been a potter and worked in stained glass. I crochet, and I sew badly. I dye silk, tie dye, and I can probably fix your toilet.
Two consistencies throughout my life are painting things and wearing hats. Those two passions have intersected here in my retirement years and I have become quite the mad hatter! My husband is constantly attempting to keep me organized, but my work space is utter chaos most of the time. I always have several hats in different stages of dying, distressing and rebuilding, there are jackets I'm painting, and now, websites I'm building. I'm a walking three ring circus.
I am blessed to have a wonderful husband, Paul, who is a music promoter for a neighborhood venue. We work side by side on the third floor of our townhouse in the middle of San Diego's urban East Village.
The wall of graffiti (by @zokezone)is our outside porch wall and above is the roof. These spaces allow me to take photos of my hats, using colorful backdrops and urban scenery. My work is spread out everywhere from the bathroom, where I steam, iron, dye and reshape hats, to the porch, where I burn, heat etch, paint, and photograph. The bedroom is where I sew. Level three is my studio...as well as our bedroom. I am fortunate to have such a space, and a super supportive husband.
